Diniizhoo Diniizhoo, a Gwich’in gathering place

Andrew TizyaAndrew Tizya described Diniizhoo

“Crow River and Potato Creek, these places, they made fish traps. That’s why the people always gathered here for fishing, mainly for fishing. [The Gwich’in name for Potato Hill is] Ddhah Ghòo [Round Mountain] ... They always gathered there from all over the country. There too, they made big meetings. Chiefs from many different places gathered for meetings, then they left in all directions, they said. That Old Thomas, all his life he stayed there.”
